One tsunami. Two lost souls. A love story twenty years in the making.
When I first decided to write this book I was backpacking around Thailand and Bali, and wound up in Sri Lanka (as you do) where everyone I met seemed to have a story about the 2004 Boxing Day tsunamI.
Some people had lost loved ones. Others had lost homes. Others had lost everything. It was truly heartbreaking.
I came home really touched, and thinking constantly about the tsunami. I felt like I really wanted to put it all down in a fictional account, told by two survivors who were separated on that day, and reunited years later.
And so began this book.
It's already touched thousands of people, and now I've edited it to bring it up to date. It's also got a lush new cover.
So meet Isla, also known as Izzy, who's sent back to Bangkok twenty years after she left Thailand following the Boxing Day tsunami. She was a kid, on holiday with her parents when it happened, and she met Ben on the beach. They formed an instant bond, never knowing that their respective holidays in paradise would end in tragedy.
When Isla miraculously bumps into Ben in Bangkok, she can't believe it's him, or that he's still alive! He convinces her to head back to the island where it happened, and where he now works. But as their connection deepens and Thailand's beauty works its magic on their hearts, the past comes back to haunt them both.
It's hard to know whether they're healing each other, or starting to drown all over again.
The Day of The Wave is a story of loving what you have, honouring what you've lost and learning to live in the moment.
The Day of The Wave is on Amazon now, and is also part of Kindle Unlimited.
